The world of beauty sponges is every growing, and as we will find out in this review, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a fantastic, multi-functional beauty tool to get the job done. The Instylish Heart of Ocean makeup application sponge serves as not only a typical foundation or powder baking helper, but can be used for many makeup purposes such as concealing, shaping your eyebrows, contour/contour stick and highlighting and blush blending. Unlike many other sponges this particular one is multi-faceted and each side has a purpose as is demonstrated on the package where the sponge sits.
This sponge retails for $7.99 USD, which is comparable to a drugstore brand such as Real Techniques (where sponge prices typically land between $6-$8 USD). I personally find the Instyish sponge to be softer, and very nice to work with in comparison to the drugstore brands that I have tried. In addition, considering that the Instylish sponge is extremely soft and can be used wet/dry and for more than one makeup technique application, this would be a great tool to invest it. A Beauty Blender sponge runs in the $20 USD range, and from my experience the Instylish sponge is similar in softness to the Beauty Blender but comes with a drugstore price.
Final thoughts: Overall I was quite pleasantly surprised as to how useful and soft this sponge was. I wasn’t sure what to expect initially as the “many facets” of this beauty tool looked gimmicky at first, but I was wrong. So far I have used this sponge to apply my contour, foundation and to highlight. Using the sponge dry I found it to be easy to work with and it was as soft as ever. When I wet the sponge it expands and is the perfect size to apply foundation to my face, although I typically use one side (with the largest surface area). I typically use a brush for my foundation, but the application with this sponge helps my foundation glide on, and I love the natural and soft finish that I can achieve with this tool. From the many drugstore brands that I have tried, the Instylish sponge is my favorite. I love that I don’t need other sponges to help with my makeup application, and that this can be the one stop shop to my beauty routine. I would recommend this and would definitely try more tools from this brand.
